FaithHealth welcomes its newest Connector, Michelle Martinez Torrez (pictured at right with Hispanic League executive director Mari Jo Turner). She will serve as a FaithHealth Connector as well as the Community Service Coordinator of the Hispanic League. She will help strengthen FaithHealth alliances to key churches that serve Hispanic/Latinos.
Martinez Torrez has worked with Help Our People Eat of Winston Salem, has educational experience and served in the National Guard. She is also a past recipient of several Hispanic League scholarships.
The Hispanic League is a nonprofit that works to improve the quality of life for Hispanics/Latinos through promoting community inclusion, education, health and multicultural understanding. The League was established in 1992 to foster diversity and raise awareness by serving as a liaison between the non-Hispanic and Hispanic communities. It also provides educational opportunities in nine middle schools and college scholarships (328 since 2000, totaling more than $700,000) and is known for its annual Fiesta in Winston-Salem.
